Personal Insurance from Gencorp Insurance Group

Personal Insurance - Equine

Gencorp Insurance Group provides equine mortality insurance for horses throughout the United States. Equine Mortality Insurance is the life insurance portion of the package. It covers death due to accident, illness, or disease. This coverage is based on the individual horse's value and is rated according to breed, age, and use. Mortality is the base coverage with which several riders (additional coverage) are available.

To qualify for this insurance, an application must be completed that describes the horse(s), its use(s), value, and facility where the horses are stabled. Several underwriting questions are included in this application with regard to the care of the horse and its health history. Prior to binding coverage, the health and soundness of the animal must be verified. Depending on age and value, an examination performed by a licensed veterinarian may be required.

Major Medical cannot be purchased without mortality insurance. This rider covers medical or surgical expenses that the horse may incur within the policy period. As with all insurance, any pre-existing ailments and unsoundness claims are excluded. There is a small deductible per occurrence.

Surgical coverage is another endorsement that may be added to the mortality policy. Reasonable and customary fees for surgical procedures and aftercare are covered, subject to limitations.

Loss of Use External Injury Only is available for injury to show horses as a result of sudden, external, accidental and violent means. The animal becomes totally and permanently unfit for use declared on the policy and injury does not require destruction for humane reasons.

Accident, Illness or Disease is available for show horses and provided in the event the animal becomes permanently incapable of fulfilling its intended use or function because of accident, illness or disease.

Stallion A, S, & D provides coverage for breeding stallions that become permanently infertile due to accident, sickness, or disease. A veterinary examination must be provided to prove that the stallion is fertile at the inception of the endorsement.

12 Month Extension coverage continues the policy in effect for specific conditions(s) incurred within that same policy period for an additional 12 months or until the condition(s) is no longer life-threatening.

Transit covers accidental injury while onboard or being loaded or unloaded from any aircraft or land transport vehicle in transit. This coverage is for travel outside the United States.

Territorial limits extension amends the policy to extend temporary Worldwide coverage (for example while at a show or in training oversees).
